Growing in faith through life and love, fun and friendship
Rooted is our older children's group at St Mary's for children aged 8-12.
It meets on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Sunday of the month in the church hall from 10:50am. The children depart at 11.00am on the minibus to the Rectory next to Charles Kingsley's School.
If you wish for your child to join Rooted then please complete the Off Site Permission Form and return it to the Rooted contact (see below).
The children's work at St Mary's is headed by Claire Kilby.
Each week Rooted is run by a team of 2 adults who are all committed Christians and CRB checked through the diocese. The teams work on a monthly rota.
During Rooted the children stay together in the same room. However, within the session the children have the opportunity to work as a whole group, in small groups or individually with an adult.
As a group, we have taken on sponsorship of Kato Junior, a 7 year old boy in Hoima, Uganda, as part of our Church partnership with that region.
We hope this will help the children understand more about their privileges and the concept of Christian giving.
Rooted activities at the Rectory include games and sports followed by age appropriate Bible stories and discussions on topical issues using DVD's and other materials.
On occasions we provide the children with a take home sheet summarising a few key points from the learning that week for you to chat through what they have learnt and help reinforce it.
Don't worry if this gets lost on the way home. We publish a copy of each sheet on the Children & Youth home page.
We'd love to have your children join us as often as you can make it so that they can gain from the continuity of the themes we cover. Prizes are awarded to children for regular attendance when they reach various milestones e.g. for attending 25 Sundays.

Then Jesus put a little child among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, "Anyone who welcomes a little child like this one on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes not only me but also my Father who sent me."
